Once, I was supposed to close a show with a 3-year-old kid and we both had matching outfits. During rehearsal, everything went as planned, but on the day of the show he started crying halfway down the runway, so in my head I thought, “What am I supposed to do?!” I ended up picking him up and I carried him to the end of the runway. This was funny only after the fact.

In 2010, 4 white teens got drunk, jumped in a car and drove to the house of a black man by the name of John White. They organized themselves like a neo-millenium lynchmob and advanced on Mr.White’s house, threatening his wife with rape and loudly demanding that Mr.White surrender his son to them, because he had apparently made inappropriate remarks to a female friend of theirs. Mr.White grabbed his gun, walked out into his driveway and demanded that the youths vacate his property. They chose not to and an altercation ensued. In the midst of this altercation, Mr.White’s gun went off, killing Daniel Cicciaro, the ring leader of this “lynchmob”. Though it was apparent that Mr.White killed in defense of himself, his family, and his home, he was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 2-4 years in prison. Mind you, this man had no prior criminal record. The reason he was convicted? The court determined that while he had no intent to kill, Mr.White should have called the police to handle the situation instead of “taking the law into his own hands.”
